Mr Bates vs The Post Office

February 2025

optimizationlogic-puzzle

The Post Office in DS City has introduced a new flat rate for packages, regardless of weight or volume, as long as the box’s “strap measure” doesn’t exceed 100 inches. The strap measure of a box is the length of its longest side plus twice the sum of its two shorter sides.

Mr. Bates, an e-commerce seller, sells large comforters with a volume of 9,000 cubic inches and wants to use the new flat rate if possible. Can you design a box large enough to hold a comforter that still qualifies for the flat-rate strap measure?
