This big announcement came on October 28, 2018. The acquisition is by far IBM’s largest deal ever, and the third-biggest in the history of U.S. tech. In a joint statement IBM and Red Hat stated that the “deal will make IBM the #1 Hybrid Cloud Provider in an emerging $1 trillion growth market” – read Press Release and Chart PDF. Red Hat will become a unit of IBM’s Hybrid Cloud division. From the Decision Management perspective, the deal would be very important as well because one of the major commercial vendors (IBM ODM) acquires one the major open source vendors (Red Hat Decision Manager and Drools).
